This massive, heavy 14" hand-turned solid hardwood plaque features an original, primitive oil painting depicting a gentleman playing a flute to a companion in a forest clearing. The clothing styles—including the gentleman's tailcoat and the woman's full skirt and wrap—strongly suggest an early-to-mid 19th-century scene. Executed directly onto the wood, the painting boasts a wonderful rustic character with a deeply aged, dark palette that beautifully contrasts with the natural exposed wood grain of the wide rim.
