The underside bears the highly collectible blue underglaze "Blue Pagoda" backstamp (Van Patten Mark #71), which reads "Hand Painted Nippon." This specific mark dates the production of this bowl precisely between 1891 and 1921, before U.S. import regulations mandated the switch to "Japan."
