For your consideration is a lovely antique porcelain covered vegetable tureen produced by the prestigious Zeh, Scherzer & Co. (Z.S. & Co.) porcelain factory in Rehau, Bavaria, Germany. Based on the specific style of the underglaze green backstamp, this piece dates precisely to the turn of the 20th century, manufactured between 1880 and 1918.
The tureen features a classic translucent fine white porcelain body decorated with an elegant, delicate border pattern of pink rose floral baskets, winding swags, and soft green foliage. The handles and the ornate, molded finial on the lid are beautifully accented with fine gold gilt highlights that remain remarkably bright. The rim also features a subtle, low-relief molded pattern in the porcelain itself, adding a sophisticated layer of texture beneath the glaze.
The underside bears the crisp, authentic green "Z.S. & Co. Bavaria" wavy line backstamp, along with an orange-red hand-painted inventory or gilder's mark reading "58." The piece is in excellent antique condition, free of any chips, cracks, or structural restoration.
There is only the minor, honest wear to the gold trim and light shelf scuffing on the base rim expected of a functional serving piece of this antique.
A stellar addition to a replacement service, a holiday table, or a display of fine European antique porcelain.
